Item Review: Hell Bunny Elvira Coat

I now own two long winter coats: a vintage 1950s Soviet East German police trench coat…and this beauty.SONY DSC

Let me introduce you to the Elvira.

With a wonderfully swishy full skirt, faux fur details and oversized front buttons, it is THE pinup coat for those of us who want to look glamorous even when it’s cold (that’s pretty much everyone, right?).

The Elvira comes in dark green, burgundy, or black, all with black faux fur details.

The Elvira fastens with five oversized buttons down the front and is single breasted, which is especially flattering on plus sized pinups like myself, as it prevents you from looking boxy.

The hood on this coat is monstrously deep – check this out:

Yup, I wasn’t kidding about the deepness!  It means you can snuggle into your hood and keep warm when it’s windy, but it also means you may need to bobby pin your hood to your hair to prevent it from completely enveloping your face.

The faux fur detail on the hood, cuffs and hem add to the luxurious look and feel of the Elvira and are soft, not scratchy.

The full skirt allows you to wear circle skirts and petticoats underneath with ease, and is great for twirling in!  The darts allow the skirt to flare out from the waist while avoiding any bulk around the torso.

The Elvira has a button-on band across the small of the back to pull the coat in and shape it to your body.

One word of caution if you are broad shouldered like me – this coat can be a little tight across the upper back, even when it fits perfectly everywhere else.  So if you’re planning to do a lot of driving or typing while wearing your coat (or other activities where your arms are stretched out in front), I’d advise sizing up if you are broad shouldered.

The Elvira comes in sizes XS to 4X, catering for busts from 34 to 48 inches, and for waists from 28 to 42 inches.  I’m wearing the 2X, which has a bust measurement of 44 inches and a waist of 38 inches.  Keep in mind when purchasing that you’ll need to leave room for your other layers of clothes underneath, so you may need to size up if in between sizes.

I purchased my Elvira from Wild Kitty Clothing for AU$245, but they currently only have size Medium left in stock.  Alternatively, you can special order the Elvira from Atomic Cherry in dark green in all sizes except Small and XLarge, or in black in all sizes except Small, Medium, Large and XLarge, for AU$235.

For these photos, I paired my Elvira with black heels from Rivers and a vintage faux fur hat.

Thank you to Miss Milla Cherry for taking these photos.
