Pretty Things List #19

So at long last, Autumn has graced us here in Queensland (after what has seemed like an unending, miserably hot Summer).  With cooler mornings arriving, I finally got the chance to bust out my new tartan Bonsai Kitten skirt, and I’ve put together this Pretty Things List of tartan goodies to share with you.

Firstly, let’s look at dresses:

If you like to show off your legs, this tartan and lace dress is perfect.  It’s pretty, but could be dressed up with black leggings and black boots for a tougher look, or paired with stockings and heels for a softer winter style.  Available from Aussie retailer Beserk, the Amara mini dress comes in sizes XS to 4XL (bust 32 inches and waist 25 inches, to bust 48 inches and waist 40.25 inches) and is AU$89.  I particularly like the way the lace detail forms a v-neck at the front.

If you, like me, are a little shy in the leg department, you could try this red tartan full-skirted dress from UK retailer Lindy Bop.  With sweetheart neckline, contrast belt, a silver sparkle through the tartan, and made of stretch fabric, this is a perfectly styled dress for our Aussie winter.  Made in Britain, the Victoria dress is 40 GBPounds, or about AU$80 at current rates.  It’s available in sizes UK8-22 (about AU6-20), catering for bust sizes from 32.25 inches to 47.5 inches, and waist sizes from 25.5 inches to 40.75 inches.

If you prefer separates, there are a number of tartan skirts available to you:

For a sensuous wiggle skirt, try Lindy Bop’s “Fontaine” navy pencil skirt.  Available in sizes UK6-22 (catering for waists from 23.5 inches to 40.75 inches, and hips from 33.5 inches to 50.5 inches) , the Fontaine has a pleated front, deep pockets, concealed back zip and is fully lined.  Keep in mind that while the skirt fabric is stretch, the lining is not, so make sure you take your measurements accurately when choosing a size.  The Fontaine can be purchased from Lindy Bop for 24 GBPounds, or about AU$48 at current rates.

If you’d prefer to purchase from Aussie retailers, you can pick up this black and white tartan Bonsai Kitten full cirlce skirt exclusively from Australian retailer Your One Stop Pinup Shop for AU$99.  Featuring pockets in the side seams, this skirt is just shy of 30″ long and will sit just past the knee on most pinups.  Available in Australian sizes 8 to 24 (catering for waists from 26 inches to 42 inches), this is a great little skirt to start off your tartan wardrobe.

If you like the look of the slightly shorter red and navy tartan skirt I’m wearing in this week’s Weekly Wardrobe post, note that it is currently on sale at Your One Stop Pinup Shop for AU$55.  Only sizes 18 and 20 are still available.

Or maybe trousers are more your cup of tea?:

Collectif is pretty well known for their excellent swing trousers, and the Glenda swing trousers are no exception.  Available in several fabrics including this dark red and navy tartan, these 1940s inspired trousers are pleated at the waistband, feature detachable button-on braces, and lovely, flattering wide legs.  Note that there is limited stretch in these, so if you’re on the larger side of the measurements for your size, it is advised that you size up.  The Glenda trousers are currently available from Collectif’s website in sizes UK 14-18 on sale for 14.75 GBPounds (or about AU$30 plus international shipping) or can be purchased in sizes 10, 12 14, 16, 20 and 22 from Your One Stop Pinup Shop for AU$69.

Aussie retailer Gwynnies are currently stockists of these stylish pink and white tartan capris from Voodoo Vixen.  The Lola Lou trousers fasten with a centre back zip and feature pockets in the side seams.  Made of stretch cotton, they’re available in sizes XS to XL, catering for a 25 inch to 33 inch waist, and hips up to 42 inches.  The Lola Lou trousers are AU$54.99.

Or, if you’d like a tartan jacket to wear for Winter:

Banned Apparel has produced a tartan and black corset-styled hooded jacket perfect for winter in Queensland.  Featuring stretch cotton fabric, front pockets, skull zipper pull, buckle details, a hidden zip pocket, and a faux-fur trimmed hood, this jacket has a bit of rock ‘n’ roll about it.  Available from Aussie retailer Tragic Beautiful in sizes S-XL, this jacket is AU$89.
