Item Review: Birdee & Star Brooches

Recently I was fortunate enough to receive two resin brooches from Australian independent seller Birdee & Star.  Birdee & Star is the independent company of owner/operator Shannan, who hand makes all her items in Brisbane, Queensland.

A really cool fact is that Shannan designs and makes the moulds for most of her creations herself, meaning that you get a design unique to her shop, not a mass produced item.

The brooches I received are both beautiful wearable pieces of resin art.  The first is the beautiful “Ariel” purple-toned glitter resin seashell.  Made from a mould cast from a real Australian shell, this piece is also available as a hair clip.  My mum was super impressed by the realism of the shell’s shape and detail.

The Ariel measures approximately 7×6 cm, making it a medium-large brooch that can really set off an outfit.  The multitonal glitter in the purple resin means you can match this item in with clothes of purple, blue, gold and green hues – or have fun clashing it with something entirely different!

The Ariel is backed with a brooch pin that features a simple, easy to use clasp.  I found it secure to wear all day.

The Ariel brooch, and its matching hair clip, retail for AU$20 each.

The second brooch I received was the striking Li’l Stormy brooch.  Also made from glitter and pigments mixed in resin, this piece is the cutest glittery storm cloud with a bold, golden glitter lightning strike emanating from the bottom – perfect for the summer thunderstorms we’re currently getting on the Queensland coast!

Li’l Stormy measures 6×5 cm at its widest points and is eye catching enough to have earned me several compliments the first time I wore it (on a suitably stormy day).

The Li’l Stormy retails for AU$20.  You’ll be pleased to know that Birdee & Star ships internationally, and that all brooches come attached to a backing card and carefully wrapped in tissue paper, making them suitable for gift giving.

Please remember that although these items were gifted to me for review, my opinions and words remain, as always, honest and truthful 🙂
