Pretty Things List #12

Hello, lovely readers.  How is your week treating you so far?

Since I’ve been exploring Etsy recently, this week’s Pretty Things List brings you items from old favourites and new sellers (one of them from my own state of Queensland), all themed around shine.

Firstly, we have the super cool resin work of Birdee & Star.  Based in Brisbane, Queensland, this lovely lady’s products include these gorgeous gold leaf resin earrings.  Suitable for pairing with an evening dress such as PUG’s Monica dress (or any outfit, from fancy to simple), they’re handmade, with silver and gold findings for comfort and quality.  Priced at just AU$35, they’re an absolute steal because they add a touch of luxury to whatever you’re wearing.

Need to stand out from the crowd at a pinup competition or party?  This perfectly pink sequined dress from Ms Katt’s Kustom House has all the sparkle you could need.  With removable straps and a fully boned bodice, it’s designed to really showcase your figure.  Available in sizes S to XL (ask Ms Katt for measurements), it retails for AU$199.

If you prefer your dresses to cling in all the right places, one of the holy grails of vintage dressing is the Pinup Girl Clothing “Monica” dress.  Available in a variety of colours and finishes, I particularly like the silver and champagne lurex knit for its beautiful shimmer.  Usually available in sizes S to 4X, this is currently only available in sizes 3X and 4X on the PUG website, but you can sign up to be informed when they restock, or try one of your nation’s PUG retailers for a Monica in your size.  Usually retailing at US$186, the Monica is currently on sale for US$148.80, which is about AU$215.50 at current exchange rates.

Available from PUG or at their own independent Etsy store, the conservation-friendly jewellery of US company Insect Diva is stunning.  Made using resin, silver and gold findings, and naturally deceased insects, this range of jewellery is really eye catching.  The Egyptian goddess Art Deco gold and green scarab beetle necklace, for instance, features a naturally metallic scarab beetle encased in resin and showcased on a gold plated chain.  For AU124.23, it’s an item you can guarantee will get you compliments.

We can’t leave out our glorious hair when thinking about shine and sheen, which is where “Greaser” all natural hair pomade comes in.  Australian made from 100% natural ingredients, such as coconut oil, essential oils, and Australian beeswax, this pomade is designed to give your hair a beautiful, silky sheen for slicked back pomps and ponytails.  It has a medium to firm hold – and it smells like oranges and cinnamon, so it’s perfect for the fella in your life, too!  Just AU$15, it last for ages.  It’s available from Aussie Etsy seller Miss Kiss Vintage (and yes, they have a matte version as well).

Finally, to keep the sunshine out of your eyes (see what I did there?), try these classic Collectif tortoiseshell sunglasses.  With a subtle cats eye design and a sturdy frame, these are available from Aussie retailer Gwynnies for AU$25.

What has been putting shine into your life lately?

I feel like I haven’t said anything for ages! Today I’ll be putting some shine into my life by letting the children use glitter. Believe me, it makes everything sparkle (I once made the mistake, when some got in my hair, of proclaiming “I’m a unicorn!”. Several of the little girls were so enchanted with this idea that they rubbed handfuls of the stuff on their heads so they could be unicorns too.)
