Pretty Things #8

It’s been a little while since I’ve done a “Pretty Things” post, what with one thing and another, but today felt like a good day to do one, so here goes!

This week’s Pretty Things list is inspired by one of my favourite flowers: the Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow plant (Brunfelsia bonodora).  So named because the flowers change colour as they age from violet to lavender to white, resulting in a bush with flowers of all three colours of flowers.  The flowers have a lovely sweet scent reminiscent of fresh mulberries – which always takes me back to when I was a kid, climbing the mulberry tree of my Grandma’s neighbour Mrs Dot to collect mulberries for her.

Looking for a dress to go with the lavenders and violets of the flowers, I came across the Masterpiece of Mind dress at Modcloth.  This gorgeous dress features an abstract floral print of all the colours of the Yesterday Today and Tomorrow!  Available in US sizes 2 – 16 (approx. AU 6 – 20), it retails for US$179.99.

Prefer something a little cheaper?  The Merle shoe in Lavender is currently on sale from British brand Miss L Fire, maker of comfortable and attractive vintage-style shoes.  A pretty lavender suede with a lavender and blue swirl on the toe, this shoe would go brilliantly with summer dresses.  Originally US$165, the Merle is now on sale for US$115.50.

For an Australian touch, why not get the newly released Erstwilder poppy brooch in purple or white (or both!)  If you make your purchase this month (November 2015), AU$2 from each poppy sold will be donated to RSL Victoria.  These poppy brooches are perfect to wear as a set and retail for AU$34.95 each.

If you’re looking for a pretty petticoat, the single layer petticoats from Aussie seller Your One Stop Pinup Shop are very soft and provide just enough volume for day dresses.  Available in a wide range of colours, this violet one is a perfect match for our flowers.  AU$59.

Finally, if you’re after some hair decoration, go no further than Australian maker and seller GiGi’s Retro Closet on Etsy.  This well made soft blue and white hair flower is a one-off individual piece that calls to mind the fading shades of the Yesterday Today and Tomorrow, for AU$22.

That’s what those flowers are! I saw some with a friend recently, and neither of us knew. Love seeing all the pretties: I’d never wear those shoes, but that doesn’t mean I don’t want them.

They are such lovely flowers and they always take me back to summers in my childhood 🙂 Lol – shoes sometimes bypass the “sensible” part of our brains.
