If you’re looking to support a small business run by a woman passionate about what she does, have a look at Bowerbird Vintage.
Bowerbird Vintage is a small shop, based in the Southern Antique Centre in the South Sydney suburb of Kogarah. It is owned and run by Kim, who – being very passionate about vintage clothing and accessories – hand sources all the clothes and accessories herself, both locally and from overseas!
A great place to catch up with Bowerbird Vintage is at vintage fairs such as the 360 Fashion Market (Canberra), Rock Around Randwick Vintage Fair, and the Round She Goes Fashion Market.
One cool thing about Bowerbird Vintage is that they actually hire clothing and accessories out for photo shoots, video productions and special events, so if you have a small budget but big plans, they can help!
If you’re not a local, you can still shop on their website, with items for sale in categories such as Vintage Separates, Vintage Hats, Vintage Dresses, and Men’s Vintage. They even have swimwear, lingerie and jewellery for sale. Whether it’s a 1940s black velvet gown, a lacey 1960s shift, or a wicked 1970s pant suit you’re after, chances are you’ll find something here!
And if you see something that catches your eye, Kim has helpfully listed the actual measurements of each individual item, along with the modern size it corresponds to, so you can be sure if it will fit you or not. She also makes note of what the condition is like – remember that these are genuine vintage pieces, so some are in excellent condition, while others need to be treated a little more gently. And if you have any questions about an item, Kim’s store email and phone number are available so you can seek her expert advice.
